Homemade Pizza Recipe

Pizza dough is one of those simple things to make, that once you've tried it, you will never go back to buying cheap frozen pizzas ever again. Plus it is super cheap and kneading the dough is something the kids can help with too!

You will need:

1 TBS dry yeast
1 tsp salt
400 g plain flour
1 c warm water

Because I now have 2 teens who eat adult portions, I double this recipe.

Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and knead for 10 minutes by hand.

Place in an oiled bowl and cover with cling wrap.

Leave for 30 minutes in a warm spot until it has doubled in size.

Punch the dough down and then portion into 4 pieces.

Roll each one out into a circle with a rolling pin.

And place onto greased trays and add your choice of sauce.

Add your favourite toppings and bake in a moderate oven until golden brown.

I make a simple tomato sauce for the base of my pizzas by blending a tin of chopped tomatoes with a clove of garlic and some dried herbs, the total cost is around 70c. If there is any left over it can be frozen and added to your next casserole.

I use Smart Buy brand tasty cheese and grate it myself because its cheaper than the packaged grated cheese. I've also found that by adding the cheese on after the tomato sauce as the first ingredient, we use a bit less and it gives the pizzas more of a fancy look.

Some of our favourite pizza toppings are:

BBQ chicken pizza- BBQ sauce, shredded chicken, onion, capsicum and cheese.

Hawaiian- Ham or bacon, pineapple and cheese.

The lot- Bacon, pepperoni, capsicum, onion and cheese.

Margarita- Tomatoes and cheese.
